Q&A Part 1: Answering Parents Questions About Their Baby & Toddler Sleep Issues

You’ll often see these Q&A videos on Sleepy Stars social media and our YouTube channel. This video includes advice on how get a toddler to self-soothe and settle without a parent present; how to deal with constant waking for a bottle; baby’s wake windows; and transitioning from 2 naps to 1.

💤⭐️Question 1. How to help a 3 ½ year old to settle without a parent present.

I’ve a 3 ½ year old who can’t settle without us lying beside him. He still wakes multiple times throughout the night and needs Dad to go in and settle him. How can I help him self-soothe? And how can I ensure my partner doesn’t have our 4 month old the same – he’s a nightmare for rocking baby to sleep and leaving him sleep on his chest!

💤⭐️Question 2. 8 month Old – Advice on helping remove the wake = bottle behaviour.

My 8 month old baby is sleeping well from 7pm-3am when he wakes for a bottle. He settles back to sleep fine after but wakes nearly every hour after that until 6am. Is there anything you’d recommend we do to help him sleep better from 3.30-6.30am? Thank you.

💤⭐️Question 3. Observe your baby’s individual wake windows

How to get my 9 month old to go to sleep? She battles every type of sleep even though she’s exhausted. Then she may wake a few times. I’m guessing as she’s then overtired.

💤⭐️Question 4. Transitioning from 2 naps to 1 nap

Hi Kelly, my 14mth old still naps around 9:30/10am. He could sleep for about an hour at this time but I usually wake him around 10:30/40am otherwise he fights the afternoon nap around 2:30/3pm and I would generally have him awake by 3:30pm. Bed is between 7 & 7:30pm. Just wondering about transitioning from 2 naps to one – at what age and the best method? Thanks
